How is Sleep important to restore your back health ?
You sleep between 6 ~ and 8 hours/ day which counts to nearly 1/3 of your life. Choosing the best sleeping environment to accompany you during that time is a great investment for your health.
When you are asleep, your body is at rest. Your spine and other joints are not bearing any weight. The muscles and ligaments of your back relax and heal themselves while you sleep. If this does not happen, you will be in pain when you wake up.
As a spine surgeon, I always ask my patient this question: How many days per week do you wake up with pain in your neck and/or back, or muscle tightness in your shoulders or back?
If the answer is 2 or more, then I advise my patient to change his sleeping environment ( start with a mattress and pillows).
An easy test to be done at home:
Have a person assess your neck and spine alignment during sleep to ensure your curves are okay. Must match this figure to be correct.
