How long will I keep my back screws?
Screws are used to increase spine strength and stability after surgery. Sometimes we need to reoperate to remove them.
The screws are removed from the patient’s back under certain circumstances as follows:
According to the type of screw metal:
- In the old days, we used stainless steel screws for spine fixation, those had to be taken out before 2 years after their insertion in the patient’s spine.
- Nowadays, we use titanium screws which can stay for a lifetime in the patient’s body.
In case the screw breaks
If the screw got loose.
In case of spinal infection.
